چکیده

The present study was designed to investigate the effect of acute heat stress on some hematological parameters in which young and adult Murrah buffaloes (n=6) were exposed to 40°C, 42°C, 45°C for 4 h duration in climatic chamber and thermoneutral temperature (22°C). Blood samples were collected by jugular vein puncture in sterile vacutainer tubes containing ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA) from animals after 4 h exposure to different temperatures. In packed cell volume (PCV) and hemoglobin, there was an increasing trend with increase of temperature, but there was no effect of age on these parameters. In case of total erythrocytic count (TEC), there was no effect of temperature but adult animals had higher TEC. Total leukocytic count (TLC) was signifi cantly increased at 40°C and 42°C in young, but there was no effect of temperature on TLC in adult animals. Mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) values were similar in all the four temperatures groups in both young and adult animals. There was no effect of temperature and age on mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) values. The intensity of changes in all parameters were more pronounced in young animals compared to adult, indicating that young animals were more susceptible to heat stress compared to their adult counterparts. This study concludes that acute heat stress evokes a series of drastic changes in the animal’s hematological functions.

Influence of Temperature and Humidity on Pregnancy Rate of Murrah Buffaloes under Subtropical Climate

Heat stress has adverse effects on fertility of dairy animals. Decline in fertility is linearly associated with an increase in combination of both temperature and humidity. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between temperature humidity index (THI) and the pregnancy rate of Murrah buffaloes in a subtropical climate. The effects of genetic and non-genetic factors viz.,...

Hematological responses of Goldfish (Carassiusauratus) to different acute concentrations of Silver Sulfate as a toxicant

This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of silver sulfate (AgSO4) as a toxicant in goldfish (Carassiusauratus). One hundred and forty-seven live specimens of C. auratus were obtained and exposed to 1, 10, 100, 500, 1000 and 2000 ppm of AgSO4for 96 hours. There was one control group (no AgSO4) and three replicates. The physicochemical properties of water and the following parameters were const...

Assessment of expected breeding values for fertility traits of Murrah buffaloes under subtropical climate.

AIM The aim of the present study was to assess the influence of temperature and humidity prevalent under subtropical climate on the breeding values for fertility traits viz. service period (SP), pregnancy rate (PR) and conception rate (CR) of Murrah buffaloes in National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) herd. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fertility data on 1379 records of 581 Murrah buffaloes spread o...

Study of Changes in Some Pathophysiological Stress Markers in Different Age Groups of an Animal Model of Acute and Chronic Heat Stress

This study demonstrates the changes in six different pathophysiological parameters such as body weight, body temperature, fecal pellet count, blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability, plasma corticosterone level and emergence of hemorrhagic peptic ulcer spots due to exposure to high environmental heat in three different age groups of freely moving rats. Methods: Each age group of rats was sub di...
